Patong, Thailand – A 36-year-old Kuwaiti national was arrested on 20 October 2025 in a hotel on Soi Nanai 8 after police discovered 0.74 grams of crystal meth in his room, authorities said.
Arrest in a busy tourist quarter
Patong police carried out the operation in the heart of the island’s main tourist district. Officers entered a hotel on Soi Nanai 8, a side street known for its concentration of guesthouses, restaurants and short-stay accommodation, and detained the man at the scene.
Drugs seized and taken as evidence
During a room search officers found 0.74 grams of crystal meth, which was seized and logged as evidence. ‘The suspect was taken to the Patong police station and the drugs were secured for further investigation,’ Patong police said.
Charges and potential penalties
The detainee was accused of two offences: possession of a Category-1 narcotic (crystal meth) and overstaying his visa. Both offences carry severe penalties in Thailand; possession of methamphetamine is punished strictly and overstaying can lead to deportation and a potential entry ban.
Investigation into wider links
Authorities said further inquiries were under way to determine whether the seized substances indicated personal use or whether the arrest was linked to larger drug distribution networks. The suspect remained in custody as legal procedures were initiated at the local police station.
