Shots at funeral kill one, injure two in Bangkok temple

Unknown attacker opens fire at Wat Bueng Thong Lang, police hunt suspect

BANGKOK, THAILAND – A gunman opened fire at a funeral wake in a Bangkok temple on Saturday, killing one and wounding two others. The shooter fled on a motorcycle.

The attack happened at around 5:29pm on 1 August 2026 at Sala 16 of Wat Bueng Thong Lang in Khlong Chan sub-district, Bang Kapi district. The unidentified suspect targeted mourners gathered inside the temple.

Shots fired at funeral wake

The gunman reached Sala 16 of the temple at the specified time and opened fire on the assembled mourners. One person died at the scene.

Emergency responders rushed the two wounded victims to nearby hospitals immediately after the attack. Their conditions have not been disclosed.

Suspect fled on blue Honda scooter

Witnesses described the assailant as around 1.60 meters tall, with long hair and a black top. He was last seen speeding away on a Honda Forza scooter without visible license plates.

The shooter drove toward the front temple gate and disappeared in that direction. Police have not yet established his current location or destination.

Police hunt for gunman

Officers and relevant authorities have launched an investigation at the crime scene. They are collecting evidence and evaluating witness statements to identify the fugitive.

The motive for the attack remains unknown. Police continue to search for the perpetrator and are working to determine what drove the assault.
