PHUKET, Thailand – A 30-year-old Kazakh woman has been arrested after blocking traffic, leading police on a lengthy pursuit, and causing a crash that injured two people.

The incident began at the Ko En curve in the Mai Khao district. Jamila Janell Jumagalieva parked her silver MG in the middle of Thepkrasattri Road. She remained in the vehicle with hazard lights flashing for over 20 minutes. This caused a significant traffic jam. Videos of the unusual blockade were posted on social media by concerned motorists.
Flucht statt Klärung
Police officers from Tha Chatchai Police arrived around 6:30 PM to speak with the driver. However, Jumagalieva accelerated and sped away before officers could resolve the situation. The pursuit lasted for several hours through the streets of Phuket. The chase culminated near the old intersection leading to the international airport.

At the intersection in Mai Khao, Jumagalieva lost control of her MG. She collided with a motorcycle and a delivery van, bringing her erratic drive to an abrupt end. Two people sustained injuries in the crash, including the driver herself. Both were transported to Thalang Hospital for treatment.

Jumagalieva was apprehended by police at the scene of the accident. According to Police Superintendent Col Khundej Na Nongkhai, she faces charges including reckless driving causing bodily harm and property damage. Investigators are collecting evidence and statements to determine further legal actions.

Just 48 hours prior, on the morning of June 18th, Jumagalieva had already caused a police response. She had parked a Mazda sideways at the entrance to the parking garage of Phuket International Airport. This blocked access for other drivers. Officers spoke with her then and noted she was under significant stress, possibly due to personal relationship issues.

At that time, officers managed to calm the Kazakh woman and escort her safely to Sakhu Police Station. Relevant authorities were notified to provide her with support. Col Salan Santisasanakul, chief of Sakhu Police, confirmed the June 18th incident. Her subsequent actions have raised questions about the initial handling of the situation.
