PHUKET, THAILAND – Mexican influencer Denise Gongora, known online as “Mary Magdalene”, died after a fall from the ninth floor of a hotel in the resort town of Phuket.

Hotel staff at the Patong Tower Hotel discovered the 33-year-old’s body on the parking area early Thursday afternoon, shortly after 1:30 p.m. She had checked in that same morning for a single night and had fallen from the ninth floor of the building.
Police rule out foul play, order autopsy
Thai police secured the scene and reported there were no signs of involvement by others. Gongora’s body was first taken to Patong Hospital and later transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where officers ordered a full autopsy as investigations continued.
Years of extreme procedures and mounting health damage
Gongora’s path into extreme cosmetic surgery began in Mexico at the age of 21, when she had her first breast enlargement performed not by a surgeon but by a dentist, with botched results that led to years of corrective operations. The list of procedures included multiple breast enlargements, nose surgeries, brow lifts, facial liposuction, buttock implants and Brazilian butt lifts, as well as illegal silicone injections that caused severe infections.
Desperate measures as complications escalated
When tissue began to rot, she resorted to sealing her wounds with superglue in an attempt to prevent further damage. She also had her eyes reshaped into a cat-like form and repeatedly enlarged her lips with fillers; in 2022 she admitted:
“I can no longer properly close my mouth.”

Risky operations abroad and near-fatal bleeding
In search of doctors willing to perform high-risk work, she travelled to Colombia and Russia, where she found practitioners prepared to carry out procedures rejected elsewhere, including a vaginal filler treatment in 2018 that drew global attention. During that 2018 operation she lost massive amounts of blood, recalling later:
“The surgeon thought I was going to die.”

Implant rupture and full upper-body tattoos
At the beginning of 2023, one of her 38J breast implants burst and emptied, leaving her for a time with only one breast, while followers speculated the implant had been overfilled. In the final year of her life, she had her entire upper body covered in black ink, including breasts, shoulders and arms, even as she spoke increasingly about her declining health.
Public regret over the cost of surgery
By 2023, she described how the once-thrilling cosmetic procedures had turned into an exhausting burden that consumed her resources.
“The procedures have severely damaged my health.”
said Gongora, influencer. She told followers that the endless interventions were slowly taking her life.
From strip clubs to viral fame
Before building an online following, Gongora worked as a stripper and escort, a period she said had contributed to her depression. She later shifted to OnlyFans after gaining viral notoriety, which allowed her to leave that earlier work behind.
Strict upbringing, early drugs and alcohol
Gongora grew up in a strictly religious household where she was not allowed to watch Disney films, but began rebelling as a young teenager. By age 12 she was sexually active and using drugs, later saying:
“I took cocaine and went to school drunk.”
said Gongora, in the podcast “No Jumper”.
Dark social media posts before death
Shortly before her death she shared a clip from the film “The Truman Show”, showing actor Jim Carrey bowing and leaving the stage, alongside a childhood photo of herself. Hours later she changed her Instagram name to “MaryMagdaleneDied”.
Family and online tributes
After her death, her brother Ivan posted a photo from Mexico expressing grief and affection, while musicians and other influencers shared tributes. Thai police said the investigation was ongoing but stated that she had taken her own life.

Her story was described as a stark warning about the dangers of extreme cosmetic surgery, particularly for vulnerable people. Behind hundreds of thousands of followers and worldwide attention lay a life marked by pain, medical emergencies and public self-destruction, raising questions about how far self-expression can go before it becomes exploitation in the pursuit of clicks and algorithms.
