PHUKET, Thailand – The body of a 33-year-old woman who allegedly jumped from the Thao-Thep-Krasattri Bridge has washed up on a Phuket beach after a two-day search.
Witnesses raised the alarm at 6:45 pm on July 28. Rescuers searched through the night. The body was finally found on the morning of July 30.
Body found at Dan Yit Beach
Rescuers from Kusoldharm Phuket and the Sarasin Team discovered the body at 7:35 am on July 30. The location was Dan Yit Beach in Mai Khao sub-district, Thalang district, Phuket.
Officers from Tha Chatchai Police Station and Khok Kloi Police Station in Phang Nga arrived to inspect the scene with investigators and forensic doctors. The body was taken to a hospital.
Black Mercedes and flip-flops on the bridge
On the evening of July 28, fishermen and residents alerted authorities after watching a woman jump from the Thao-Thep-Krasattri Bridge on the Tha Nun side. The bridge connects Phuket to the mainland in Takua Thung district, Phang Nga province.
Police found a parked black Mercedes-Benz on the bridge. Inside were identification documents belonging to Kanthaphon Churasri, 33, from Pathum Thani province. Near the suspected jump point, officers found only a pair of flip-flops.
Village chief and volunteers comb the area
Police from Tha Chatchai and Khok Kloi launched a search immediately after the report. Village chief of Moo 5, Phanuphan Chindaphon, joined rescuers from Kusoldharm Phuket and other volunteers.
The teams combed the bridge and surrounding waters through the entire night of July 28 into July 29. Police contacted the missing woman’s relatives for more information, but the search initially found nothing.
Autopsy and religious rites after procedures complete
Kanthaphon Churasri’s body was taken to a hospital for an autopsy. This is required by law after an unexplained death on Phuket.
Once the forensic examination is complete, the body will be handed over to the family to perform religious rites.
