BANGKOK, THAILAND – Bangkok’s riverfront mall ICONSIAM announced a five-day New Year countdown festival with a world-famous headliner and a 1.4-kilometre fireworks display.
Five-day festival on the Chao Phraya River
From 27 to 31 December 2025, the River Park at ICONSIAM on the Chao Phraya River was set to transform into an “Endless Riverfront Entertainment Arena.” Organisers scheduled more than 200 performers, including leading bands such as Bodyslam, Slot Machine and Jeff Satur. The aim was to cement Bangkok’s status as a global top countdown destination and attract tourists from around the world.
Global star Mark Tuan to headline New Year’s Eve
The highlight on New Year’s Eve was the planned performance by Mark Tuan, the global star and former member of GOT7. He was due to share the stage with major names from Thailand’s music scene in what organisers described as a concert format not previously seen in the country.
“Where the best of Thailand meets the best of the world,”
said event organisers, promising a legendary night of unforgettable entertainment.
1.4 km 4D fireworks and drone show
The New Year fireworks display was designed as a 1,400-metre-long spectacle along the river. A combination of eco-friendly fireworks, precise drone formations and pyrotechnics was expected to light up the Bangkok sky. The 20-minute show was created by award-winning Japanese fireworks director Okuchi Yoshimasa, and was billed as delivering breathtaking moments.
State agencies and major firms join forces
The mega-event was backed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Large corporations including the Charoen Pokphand Group and KASIKORNBANK participated as partners in what was presented as a concentrated public–private partnership.
“The event will boost high-season tourism, support riverfront businesses and generate significant economic momentum,”
said ICONSIAM Managing Director Supoj Chaiwatsirikul.
Strong tourism and revenue expectations
Expectations for the countdown were high. TAT Deputy Governor Natt Krutsut pointed to the previous year, when the 2025 countdown generated more than 55 million baht (about 1.4 million euros) in revenue. For the New Year holiday period from 28 to 31 December, at least 500,000 international visitors were expected nationwide, with the ICONSIAM countdown positioned as a central draw to fill Bangkok’s hotels and restaurants.
Access, streaming and the road to Countdown 2026
Access to the festival grounds was planned via simple walk-in, by reaching a minimum spending level in participating shops, or through online registration. Full details and conditions were to be announced on ICONSIAM’s website and social media channels, while shows would be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube for those unable to attend in person. Bangkok was preparing to demonstrate how to stage an unforgettable large-scale event, as the countdown to the 2026 New Year countdown effectively began.
