TAK, THAILAND – Emergency teams completed a nine-hour rescue operation to bring a five-month-old infant with severe breathing difficulties from remote forested terrain to hospital care. The baby was in critical condition as responders provided continuous oxygen and emergency treatment while negotiating muddy tracks and impassable roads.

According to the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (NIEM), a team led by nurses from Umphang Hospital mounted the response after the child developed life-threatening respiratory problems in a remote part of Tak province. The rescuers advanced on foot and by vehicle through rugged woodland to reach the household and stabilize the infant for transport.
Ambulance immobilized
The ambulance bound for the hospital became stuck in deep mud, halting progress for approximately four hours. Team members, led in part by nurse Woranuch, worked to maintain the infant’s airway and oxygenation while attempting to free the vehicle and find an alternate route. The delay extended the mission to a total of nine hours before the child arrived at the hospital.
