SAARBRÜCKEN, GERMANY – Germany is grappling with a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring, potentially breaking national records.
In Saarbrücken, the thermometer climbed to a blistering 41.3 degrees Celsius on Friday. If confirmed, this would mark a new official national temperature record.
The German Weather Service (DWD) reported the reading on June 28, 2026, a figure that has put Germany into a sweat.
This measurement challenges the previous national heat record of 41.2 degrees Celsius, set in July 2019. If validated, this new high would surpass the seven-year-old record.
DWD: Data still preliminary
However, the recorded temperature has not yet been definitively confirmed by meteorologists. The DWD has emphasized that these are preliminary data.
A detailed quality assurance process must be completed before the measurement can be officially entered into the record books. Only then will it be certain if the 41.3 degrees Celsius truly surpassed the previous peak.
