BANGKOK, THAILAND – A holiday in Thailand turned into a nightmare for German traveller Nele Ludowig Roeffen after her wallet with all key documents was stolen.
Holiday in Thailand turns into ordeal
The 22-year-old, daughter of RTL presenter Frauke Ludowig, described the incident in an emotional TikTok video. What began as a carefree trip with friends suddenly became, in her words, a nightmare in the middle of paradise. Her voice trembled as she explained that she had been robbed while on an evening out.
“My whole wallet has been stolen,”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer.
All identification documents gone
The loss went far beyond holiday cash.
“I had my passport, my vaccination card, my driving licence, my ID – my whole life,”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer. She added that her health insurance card, BahnCard 50 and student ID were also missing.
Her conclusion was bleak:
“I am nobody.”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer.
Shock moment far from home
The theft came without warning while she was out for the evening in Thailand. She only noticed later that something was wrong when her bag suddenly felt unusually light.
“My bag was totally light, and I thought: Oh okay, totally good. No – nothing was good!”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer.
At first she hoped she had only misplaced the wallet, but it quickly became clear it had been stolen without a trace. Thousands of kilometres from Germany, she suddenly found herself without any form of official identity.
Fear of being unable to fly home
The timing of the theft added to the pressure, as she was still scheduled to fly back to Germany on 11 January, a Sunday.
“The problem is: I am in Thailand. I am not coming back to Germany,”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer.
Instead of island-hopping, her plans now involved visiting authorities in Bangkok to secure replacement documents, a process that could take several working days.
“I am totally lost,”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer, adding that even a change of flight was being considered.
Parents react immediately from afar
In the midst of the chaos, her parents, Frauke Ludowig and her husband Kai Roeffen, offered immediate support. Speaking particularly warmly about her father, she said in the video:
“He blocked all the cards immediately. He is such a treasure.”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer.
There were no reproaches from home, only unconditional backing. Nevertheless, self-doubt weighed heavily on the young traveller.
“Why did I take my passport with me? Am I stupid?!”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer.
A difficult start to 2026
The theft followed an already painful start to the year for Nele, who reported suffering a torn ligament at the beginning of 2026. For her, the loss of all documents felt like losing far more than plastic cards and papers.
“Now I have also lost my entire life,”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer.
At the end of the video, she tried to counter the despair with dark humour.
“Happy 2026.”
said Nele Ludowig Roeffen, influencer. How her case would be resolved remained unclear, but it was certain that this Thailand trip would stay with the Ludowig family for a long time.
