PATTAYA, THAILAND – Four foreign tourists were injured in a late-night collision between two motorcycles on the busy Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya.
Crash in front of Underwater World
The accident occurred at around 00:10 a.m. near the Underwater World Pattaya aquarium, according to Pattaya City Police. The station received a report of a motorcycle collision with multiple injuries, prompting an immediate response.
Rescue teams from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya were dispatched to the scene and arrived within minutes. They found both motorcycles badly damaged and the riders and passengers lying on the road with visible injuries.
Two Russians and two Iraqis among injured
Officers discovered a black Honda Scoopy i lying on its side, heavily damaged. Its rider, described as a Russian tourist around 30 years old, had abrasions across his body, while his Russian female passenger lay injured on the roadway, complaining of severe pain in her left leg and multiple scrapes.
A short distance away, responders located the second vehicle, a white Honda Click, also significantly damaged. It had been ridden by an Iraqi tourist estimated at 30 to 40 years of age, with another Iraqi man seated as passenger; both men suffered numerous abrasions.
Emergency treatment and hospital transfer
Rescue teams provided first aid to all four injured tourists at the scene before arranging further care. Due to the intensity of her leg pain, the Russian passenger was transported to a nearby hospital for additional treatment.
The identities of those involved were not initially released by police. All four were expected to receive full medical attention before being formally interviewed about the crash.
Witnesses allege wrong-way riding
After the collision, witnesses particularly pointed to the motorcycle ridden by the Iraqi tourists. They told authorities that the Honda Click had been traveling in the wrong direction on Sukhumvit Road when it collided head-on with the motorcycle carrying the Russian tourists, which was said to be in its correct lane.
All four people were thrown to the ground by the impact and sustained injuries. Police said no immediate information on possible charges or formal attribution of fault was available.
Police reviewing CCTV and legal options
The Pattaya City Police began reviewing CCTV footage from the area around the crash site to reconstruct the sequence of events and assess potential legal consequences. The tourists were to be questioned in more detail once their medical treatment was complete.
According to the police, further steps depended on the results of the video analysis and later witness statements. No decisions on prosecution or responsibility had been announced at the time of reporting.
Safety concerns on major traffic artery
Sukhumvit Road is considered a central traffic artery in the Pattaya region and remained heavily used even at night. Authorities stressed that wrong-way riding on this route posed a serious risk of severe collisions, especially for motorcyclists lacking a protective vehicle body.
Such incidents also placed a high burden on emergency services and local hospitals in the tourist hub. Police stated that they would continue the investigation and planned to re-interview those involved in detail once their treatment had concluded.
