PATTAYA, THAILAND – A foreign motorcyclist was critically injured in a late-night crash with a parked pickup truck that nearly severed his right leg in Pattaya.
Severe collision on Thepprasit Road
The accident occurred at about 11:36 p.m. on 15 December 2025 on Thepprasit Road near the entrance to Soi Thepprasit 6, a heavily used route in the city. Police Lieutenant Mana Sak Phon Yiam, deputy investigator at Pattaya City Police Station, received the report and coordinated the response with rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thamma Sathan Foundation.
Foreign rider’s leg nearly amputated
At the scene, responders found a bronze Nissan Navara parked at the roadside with significant damage to its rear. Nearby, a badly wrecked red Honda Click motorbike lay overturned on the carriageway.
The rider, described as a foreign man of European appearance aged around 50 to 60, had multiple abrasions across his body and a particularly severe injury to his right leg, which was almost amputated. Rescue workers provided immediate first aid, stabilised him at the scene and rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his name and nationality were not yet known.
Second vehicle struck, driver slightly injured
The force of the impact reportedly hurled the motorbike further across the road, where it then hit another parked vehicle belonging to a local resident. The other driver suffered minor abrasions to his arm and, after being treated by rescue personnel at the scene, declined transport to hospital.
No direct witnesses, cameras to be reviewed
According to police, there were no eyewitnesses to the moment of impact. Residents said they only heard a loud bang, then found the severely injured man groaning on the road and alerted emergency services.
Initial police findings indicated that the motorcyclist appeared to have lost control of his vehicle before crashing into the stationary pickup.
“We will review surveillance cameras in the area to clarify the exact course of the accident and to reconstruct speed, driving behaviour and any other contributing factors,”
said Police Lieutenant Mana Sak Phon Yiam, deputy investigator at Pattaya City Police Station.
Night-time road safety concerns highlighted
The incident once again drew attention to road safety risks at night in tourist-heavy cities such as Pattaya. Parked vehicles along the roadside, limited visibility and potentially excessive speed can significantly increase the likelihood and severity of serious crashes.
Key safety considerations for riders
Police and rescuers pointed to several critical factors in night-time riding. High speed in the dark extends stopping distances and worsens crash consequences, while vehicles parked at the edge of the road may present unexpected obstacles.
Protective clothing and defensive riding were noted as measures that can reduce injury severity in the event of an accident, even when collisions with stationary vehicles occur.
