PATTAYA, THAILAND – A night-time police operation at the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival 2025 uncovered illegal alcohol sales in a restricted beach zone, including a vendor disguised as an official.
Special team deployed to Pattaya Beach
At about 22:16 on Saturday evening, district chief Patcharapat Sritanyanon sent a special team to Pattaya Beach, led by Tharit Chanchareun. Their assignment was to stop illegal alcohol sales inside the restricted festival area, where such trade was strictly banned.
Vendor posed as government official
Officers reported finding a man in clothing that appeared official, openly selling alcohol to festivalgoers in front of security personnel. A concerned citizen had tipped authorities off that someone there was passing himself off as a government official.
The team discovered a group offering various alcohol brands without any attempt to hide their activities, which authorities viewed as a clear provocation. The alleged fake official was detained and taken away for questioning.
Large quantity of alcohol seized
Police confiscated a large amount of alcoholic drinks from different brands at the scene. The stall operator and several accomplices were arrested during the operation.
If it turned out that the man in official-style clothing was in fact a real government employee, he faced not only criminal charges but also disciplinary action by his agency.
Zero tolerance during major festival
The raid formed part of tightened controls during the two-day Pattaya International Fireworks Festival 2025, which drew hundreds of thousands of visitors to the beach. The alcohol ban in public event zones was intended to guarantee safety and order throughout the festivities.
City authorities signalled that they would show no tolerance for violations, particularly when the authority of the state was being misused.
Authorities send clear message to visitors
Officials stressed that anyone failing to follow the rules would be held accountable.
They said criminal groups had tried to exploit the large crowds for illegal business while most people were simply enjoying the fireworks. Thanks to alert citizens and a rapid police response, the festival was not taken over by alcohol smugglers, which authorities described as a success for public safety in Pattaya.

The incident also raised questions about how strictly festivals at the beach should be regulated. Some observers asked whether alcohol bans at such events should be defended or scrapped, and how people preferred to celebrate: with firm rules, or with fewer restrictions.
