SONGKHLA, THAILAND – A former South African teacher at Hatyaiwittayalai School allegedly posted shooting threats against teachers and school administrators after his contract ended.
Pieter Johannes Dreyer shared a picture of a firearm in a Line group alongside threatening messages. He has now apologised to students, parents, and former colleagues.
Posts after contract end sparked concern
The alleged threats appeared after the school terminated Dreyer’s contract as an English teacher in the English-language programme. In the messages, Dreyer allegedly threatened teachers and school management members.
The posts came shortly after a shooting at Debsirin-Nonthaburi School that killed nine people. The incident raised fears about school safety across Thailand.
Dreyer asks students and colleagues for forgiveness
In a video apology, Dreyer addressed students, former colleagues, parents, former students, and others affected. He admitted his words may have caused fear and worry, especially during a sensitive time linked to school violence.

He said he had already apologised in the Line group and wanted to repeat that apology to his Thai students.
Teacher denies intent to harm
Dreyer said he never wanted to hurt anyone and completely rejects violence. He claimed his comments aimed to raise concerns that should be handled properly.
But he admitted the way he expressed those concerns was wrong. Conflicts and complaints must go through proper procedures, he said, and should never involve violence or threats.
Promise for the future
The former teacher said he respects the safety of students and the community. He hopes his apology will be accepted.
Dreyer vowed to be more careful with his words in the future and to take responsibility for them.
