PATTAYA, THAILAND – A foreign tourist was injured in a nighttime fall near Ziggy Pier on Pratumnak Road and then refused all medical treatment.
Nighttime fall at Pratumnak pier
Around midnight, officers from the Pattaya city administration were called to an accident on Pratumnak Road, Soi 5. A witness had discovered an injured man lying on the ground in the pier area and dialed the emergency number.
Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation arrived at the scene shortly afterwards. The tourist was conscious but showed clear signs of heavy alcohol consumption. Authorities did not release any information about his identity or nationality.
Medical help refused
Despite visible injuries, the man declined both first aid at the scene and transport to a hospital. According to the rescuers, they were unable to persuade him to accept treatment and eventually left without him.
Adults generally had the right to refuse medical treatment, officials noted. Nonetheless, the officers documented the incident in case a complaint was filed later or the man decided to seek hospital care.
Alcohol suspected as cause
The city administration regarded the incident as further evidence of the risks posed by alcohol consumption around piers and waterfront promenades. Warnings on this issue had already been published several times in the past.
Pattaya regularly recorded alcohol-related accidents near bodies of water and elevated structures during peak tourist seasons. Authorities appealed to visitors to exercise particular caution when spending time close to the water.
Safety at Pattaya’s waterfronts
The Pratumnak area was described as one of the busy districts in southern Pattaya where nightlife and shoreline zones overlapped. Several piers and landing spots were of older construction and did not consistently feature modern safety barriers.
The responsible city administration had, in recent years and on request, announced plans to review safety installations along the waterfront promenades. Concrete measures had not yet been documented.
Recommendations for tourists
Tourism associations and health authorities advised holidaymakers to avoid combining alcohol with nighttime visits to shores, stairways or pier facilities. In the event of an accident, officials explicitly recommended making use of medical assistance.
In emergencies, the rescue service of the Sawang Boriboon Foundation was available around the clock in Pattaya. The organisation operated several stations across the city and generally responded to emergency calls within a few minutes.
