BANGKOK, Thailand – A 46-year-old delivery driver was severely injured Tuesday afternoon when lightning struck him on the Ratchavibha overpass, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle and fall, before being recovered unconscious. Emergency services transported him to a hospital for urgent treatment amidst heavy rain at the time of the incident.
Lightning Strike on Overpass
The lightning strike occurred at approximately 3:40 PM on the Ratchavibha overpass, heading towards the Ratchayothin intersection on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. The driver was on the overpass when the impact seemingly affected him directly, leading to a loss of control over his motorcycle.
Rescuers Found Him Unconscious
Rescuers from the Poh Tech Tung Foundation arrived at the scene to find the 46-year-old lying unconscious on his back. Following initial on-site medical care, he was transferred to a hospital for further treatment.
Burn Marks on Helmet and Body
Preliminary findings suggest the lightning struck the driver’s helmet, leaving burn marks and tearing off a necklace with an amulet. The man sustained severe injuries; reports indicated a long burn mark running from his left neck to his chest. The 46-year-old is currently hospitalized for urgent medical treatment.
