Family Outing Turns into Nightmare
On the evening of October 8, American citizen Quincy Nguyen Tran, 50, was walking back to his accommodation with his family after dinner on Pattaya South Beach Road. As they passed Soi 16 near the famous Walking Street, a Thai motorcyclist suddenly appeared.
Without warning, the man deliberately swerved and struck Tran from behind with his motorcycle. Suspecting a possible insurance scam, Tran took out his phone to record the incident and called for police assistance.
Violent Blow Leaves Tourist Unconscious
The situation escalated in seconds. The motorcyclist knocked the phone from Tran’s hand and delivered a punch directly to his face. Tran collapsed to the ground and lost consciousness, while the assailant fled the scene on his motorcycle, his identity still unknown.
Tran’s family, shocked and helpless, could only watch as he lay motionless on the pavement. It was only later that they managed to summon help and get medical attention for the injured tourist.
Police Urgently Seek Witnesses
Pattaya City Police confirmed the incident, which was reported at 3:38 a.m. on October 9. Lieutenant Pakkorn Prakobnan is leading the investigation: “We are currently reviewing CCTV footage in the area and working to identify the suspect.”
Police are appealing for witnesses: anyone who saw the incident or possesses dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to come forward. The attack’s proximity to the renowned Walking Street—a zone meant to be safe for tourists—adds to the gravity of the case.
Concerns Over Pattaya’s Reputation
The incident has alarmed local business owners and residents. Pattaya has seen repeated confrontations between tourists and locals. In July, a 38-year-old American was assaulted by a bar owner for filming inside the venue. Now, many fear that Pattaya’s reputation as a safe tourist destination could be at risk.

Police are working to quickly identify and apprehend the suspect. The current medical condition of Quincy Nguyen Tran has not been officially disclosed, but he has received medical care. The city now waits anxiously for answers—and for justice.
