Between 9 and 10 a.m. on Christmas morning, Mark Counsell held a video call with his family, during which he was described as being in excellent spirits and looking forward to his trip. After that conversation, all contact broke off, and repeated attempts to reach him by phone or online failed. His relatives in Pontypool were deeply worried as the silence continued.
Police launch public search across borders
Gwent Police issued a public appeal for information and asked urgently for help from the public. His last known location was Thailand, but investigators believed he might have travelled on to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
