SAMET ISLAND, THAILAND – A 31-year-old construction worker was arrested after allegedly attempting to break into a 32-year-old tourist’s room at a four-star resort at night.
Suspect identified via CCTV and apprehended shortly thereafter
Surveillance cameras captured a man whom investigators identified as Nattaphong, also known as Lek, a 31-year-old construction worker from a nearby site. Police apprehended him approximately 30 minutes after the report, finding him playing online games on his mobile phone. The initial alarm was received on June 3rd.
Police in Phe reported arriving at the resort about 15 minutes after being contacted. Three police officers were present during the identification process.
Victim: Screams deterred the man
The 32-year-old tourist told police she was staying at the resort with a group of 12 friends and relatives when she heard unusual noises behind her room at night. She saw a man attempting to force entry, screamed for help, and the attacker subsequently fled, according to her account. The group also included children and a pregnant woman, further increasing the guests’ alarm. Family members later posted details of the incident on Facebook.
Multiple charges against the 31-year-old
The man was charged with attempted rape, trespassing at night, and illegal online gambling. Investigations against him are ongoing. During questioning, the suspect reportedly told police he acted on impulse after seeing the woman near his work area and attempting to enter her room.
Resort faces criticism – Management attributes delays
Members of the tourist group criticized the resort for slow assistance, making their complaints public on social media. The resort later issued a statement, which was subsequently removed. The management emphasized in its statement that the suspect was not an employee and had assisted with identification. They also pointed out that staff accommodation is located about 200 meters from the scene, contributing to delays.

Rayong Provincial Police announced they would review security measures on Samet Island. The provincial police commander plans to visit the scene to inspect the site and discuss improved measures. The visit is scheduled for June 4th. Investigations are continuing, with police examining further details of the event, potential security lapses, and resort procedures.
