KHON KAEN, THAILAND – He thought he was safe. But yesterday morning the door crashed in! Australian and Thai police captured a convicted sex offender hiding in a luxury villa.
Wanted Fugitive Fled to Thailand – Now Caught!
The man, identified by authorities only as Richard, was sleeping unsuspectingly in the house. Investigators from Immigration Bureau Region 4 surrounded the property together with special units.
They entered and handcuffed the Australian. April 28 became the day of reckoning for the fugitive.
His Crime: Child Abuse
Richard is listed on Australia’s sex offender registry. His list of offenses is serious: sexual assault of children, possession of child pornography, and drug supply.
Police in Queensland had already issued an arrest warrant. Australian authorities canceled his passport – but by then he had already gone underground in Thailand.
Police Pursue Zero-Tolerance Policy
The Australian Federal Police in Bangkok coordinated the hunt. Thailand’s Immigration Bureau follows a hardline approach: zero tolerance for foreign criminals.
Cases of child abuse and human trafficking are especially targeted.
“These crimes threaten us all internationally.”
said a police spokesman. Richard remains in custody before his return to Australia.
Next Fugitive Caught in Phuket
Almost simultaneously, investigators nabbed a second Australian in a luxury accommodation on Phuket. Robert Wainwright fled from drug allegations in his homeland.
The Australian operation LESALAN aimed to arrest Wainwright and other suspects. But he slipped away – until investigators tracked him down in Thailand.

The message is clear: anyone who harms children and tries to hide in Thailand will face the full force of the law. International police cooperation is closing loopholes.
