PHUKET, Thailand – A foreign woman caused significant traffic disruption on a busy Phuket intersection by stopping her SUV in the middle of the road for over 20 minutes, subsequently fleeing when police arrived.
SUV blocks complete intersection
The incident occurred on June 21st around 7:10 PM at the Phuket Yacht Haven intersection on Thep Kasattri Road in the Thalang district. A grey SUV was stationary in the middle lane for several minutes, impeding other vehicles. A Thai motorist, returning home, noticed the vehicle and approached it out of concern.
Driver unresponsive – police called
The driver, a foreign woman, was observed staring at her mobile phone and appeared unresponsive. Despite attempts to check on her, she showed little reaction. The concerned driver then alerted the Tha Chatchai Police Station.
Upon the officers’ arrival, the woman refused to exit the vehicle. A police officer attempted communication using a translation app on his phone. The driver communicated solely by typing short messages on her device.
Sudden escape before police eyes
Unexpectedly, the woman started the engine and sped away from the scene while police were still interacting with her. Officers were unable to stop her. A video of the entire event later surfaced on the Facebook group “Khap Rot Baep Nee Tong Prachan Phuket,” which translates to “Drivers like this deserve to be exposed.” The post described the incident, stating, “A Kazakh woman parked her car in the middle of the road for over 20 minutes. The police came to talk, but she sped away from the scene.”
SUV previously seen driving in circles
Following the incident, several social media users reported observing the same vehicle earlier in the day. Around 5:20 PM, the grey SUV was reportedly seen driving in circles multiple times near the Ban Mud Dok Khao intersection on the same road. This peculiar behavior has led investigators to suspect that the driver may pose a danger to herself and others. Police have not officially confirmed the woman’s nationality.
Hunt for the unknown woman is on
Authorities are currently working to identify the driver and locate her whereabouts. She is expected to be summoned for questioning and face potential legal consequences. Specific criminal offenses are currently under review. To date, the woman has neither been apprehended nor officially identified. Officers are appealing to any witnesses who may have information about the vehicle or the driver to report to the Tha Chatchai Police Station immediately.
