LAMPANG, Thailand – A sudden explosion at a hotel late on June 10th caused panic among guests, leading to an evacuation. A chemical reaction in a bathroom ignited a fire in room 103. Nearly 30 people had to hastily leave their rooms, with some climbing down ladders from the second floor. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Around 9 PM, hotel guests reported an explosion-like noise followed by heavy smoke. They quickly fled their rooms and gathered outside. Those accommodated on the second floor partly escaped using provided ladders. The hotel, located in Pong Yang Khok village in Hang Chat district, had almost 30 rooms occupied. All present were safely evacuated before the fire department and rescue services arrived.

Initial investigations suggest someone had used a pipe cleaner in the bathroom of room 103 and left it behind. The substance, vaguely described by authorities as “microorganisms or chemicals,” later triggered a chemical reaction and exploded. The detonation set the room on fire, with smoke billowing through the building. The fire was confined to room 103.
Feuerwehr und Retter handeln sofort
Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwit Deemihan from the Hang Chat station was immediately alerted and arrived with fire trucks, local emergency medical units, and the Lampang rescue association. Responders entered the smoke-filled hotel, searching room by room for any trapped individuals. Natthaphon Wongchuwan, a volunteer with the rescue association, confirmed all guests had already exited the building and were unharmed. “We checked every room, no one was inside anymore,” Wongchuwan stated. The fire was brought under control shortly after.

The fire caused damage only to room 103, affecting the room door and air conditioning. Other areas of the hotel remained untouched by the flames. Police suspect an accident due to improper handling of the drain cleaner. Guests and staff were shaken but safe.
