The suspect, Atthawit Thongsong, allegedly fired warning shots in several villages within the Chulabhorn district, instilling fear in residents. Officers confiscated the weapon, a drug test returned positive for methamphetamine, and the man was handed over to investigators.
Escape from Rehab and Theft Allegations
According to the police, Atthawit Thongsong had departed a treatment and rehabilitation facility operated by the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Volunteer Defence Corps. Authorities stated the man is known for erratic behavior and was recently linked to thefts in the area.
Residents Witnessed Motorcycle Ride with Long Gun
Residents reported seeing the suspect riding a motorcycle through villages in the Chulabhorn district while carrying a long-barreled firearm. Witnesses stated he fired warning shots into the air, causing fear among the local population.
Police Locate Suspect on Ao Sri Muang Road
Officers initiated a manhunt after receiving multiple reports about the armed man. The police located him on Ao Sri Muang Road in the Na Mo Bun sub-district; the suspect abandoned his motorcycle and fled on foot, still in possession of the weapon.
Arrest in a House in Moo 3
Investigators later found the man hiding inside a house in Moo 3 of the Na Mo Bun sub-district and surrounded the property. The police apprehended him without further incident, seizing a shotgun and one cartridge.
Drug Test Positive and Legal Proceedings
The suspect was transported to the Chulabhorn Police Station, where a drug test, according to officials, came back positive for methamphetamine. He was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and carrying a firearm in a public place without a permit. He was handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings.
