PHUKET, THAILAND – Phuket’s tourism is experiencing a significant boost during the Vesak long weekend, with a substantial influx of domestic visitors and substantial revenue expected.
For the period of May 30 to June 1, the TAT office in Phuket anticipates 42,721 domestic visitors, projecting earnings of approximately 258.35 million Baht. This surge is attributed to a combination of local events, increased flight capacity, and ongoing international demand, leading to crowded beaches, fully booked hotels, and a busier airport.
Expected Guest Numbers and Revenue
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Phuket office, has forecast that the Vesak long weekend will attract 42,721 domestic tourists. This is expected to generate around 258.35 million Baht in revenue.
A survey of hotels, covering 30% of accommodations in key tourist zones, indicated an average occupancy rate of 69.42%. The average length of stay during this period was recorded at 1.86 days.
Events Draw Visitors
Local events are identified as a primary driver of this increased demand. On Saturday, the “3 Districts 3 Runs” activity took place at Bang Wad Reservoir in the Kathu district.
This event successfully drew families, health-conscious visitors, and runners from neighboring provinces, contributing to the higher projected visitor numbers, according to the TAT.
Phuket International Airport Anticipates High Traffic
Phuket International Airport is preparing for a significant volume of air traffic over the weekend. The airport is expecting 352 domestic flights and approximately 45,866 arriving passengers.
This averages out to about 117 flights and 15,288 passengers per day throughout the observation period.
More Connections for the Summer Season
Flight connectivity is being expanded with planned or reinstated routes. These include Singapore–Phuket with Thai Lion Air, Chiang Rai–Phuket with Thai Vietjet Air, and Penang–Phuket with AirAsia.
Furthermore, Vietnam Airlines is scheduled to launch flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Phuket in July. Virgin Atlantic will also commence services from London Heathrow to Phuket in October.
Strong Start to the Year Lays Foundation for Further Growth
Phuket recorded a total of 4.9 million visitors between January and April 2026. This figure includes 3.5 million international arrivals and 1.3 million Thai tourists. The average hotel occupancy rate during this period stood at 81.85%.
Sirivan Siharat, acting director of the TAT Phuket office, credited the positive trend to events, improved flight capacity, and sustained international demand. She anticipates further growth in the second half of 2026.

For visitors, this trend signifies increased direct flight options. However, it also means higher demand for hotels and greater activity at airports and attractions, particularly during the Vesak long weekend.
