PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 27-year-old woman has filed a police report against a ride-hailing app driver, accusing him of indecent touching, undressing, and following her to her hotel room in South Pattaya. A video of the confrontation, shared on Facebook by her sister, prompted the woman to demand legal action.
Ride ended with unauthorized touching, claims woman
May stated she booked a ride with a friend and the friend’s boyfriend. After the other two passengers disembarked at a hotel, she paid the driver an additional 200 Baht to take her to a different hotel. During the remainder of the journey, the driver allegedly locked the doors, touched her without consent, and exposed himself. He claimed he wanted to see her tattoo while continuing to touch her.
Driver allegedly gained access to room
Upon arrival at her destination, the driver refused to unlock the door and requested phone numbers. May provided her number to exit the car quickly. The driver remained parked in front of the hotel for nearly an hour. He called multiple times, falsely claiming she had left lipstick in his car. Before ending the call, he allegedly opened the door and entered her room, according to her allegations.
Sister filmed, driver fled after confrontation
May asked her sister to come over. Her sister began filming as she confronted the man in the room. The driver, reportedly startled, returned to his car and drove away.
May later posted the video on Facebook to warn other users of the ride-hailing app, especially women, about potential dangers. She also reported the incident to the Pattaya City Police Station.
Driver called for deletion, confidante admitted similar behavior
May reported that the driver called her and asked her to delete the video, which she refused, proceeding instead to report the incident to the police. May also stated that the driver’s girlfriend contacted her and admitted that he had behaved similarly before. However, May indicated that this is the first documented instance. The police are now investigating the case.
Complaint filed at Pattaya City Police Station
May has filed a complaint at the Pattaya City Police Station, demanding that the driver be prosecuted to prevent him from targeting other passengers. She also requests stricter controls on driver profiles in the app, as the displayed photos do not always match the actual drivers.
