BANGKOK, THAILAND – A 17-year-old schoolgirl was forced to jump from a moving Bolt motorcycle in Bangkok to escape her driver.
Student Jumps from Moving Motorcycle
The incident occurred on April 23, 2026 at around 1 a.m. in the Nong Khaem district. The teenager had booked a ride from the Rama 2 area to her home, but the trip turned into a nightmare.
During the ride, the driver consumed a Kratom drink and ignored the student’s destination address. Fearing the intoxicated man, the girl jumped from the moving motorcycle at a red traffic light.
Drug Use and False Identity
The student suffered head injuries from the fall but was rescued by bystanders. A video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
The driver later admitted to consuming Kratom and cannabis during the ride. He also illegally used his father’s account to accept orders for Bolt.
Authorities Threaten Complete Block
Patchara Anantasilpa from the Ministry of Digital Economy sharply criticized Bolt for failing in risk management. He warned:
“Authorities could completely block the platform in Thailand.”
said Patchara Anantasilpa, from the Ministry of Digital Economy.
The company had failed to comply with agreed safety conditions despite multiple deadline extensions. Bolt now faces a permanent ban unless immediate improvements in driver screening are implemented.
Certificate at Risk
Bolt’s operating certificate expires at the end of May 2026 and renewal is currently uncertain. Out of 6,700 ride-hailing complaints, over 2,000 violations were attributed solely to this provider.
Authorities are now demanding biometric identity checks to prevent account sharing. Only this can guarantee passenger safety in the future.
Safety for Young Women Demanded
The case highlights dangerous shortcomings in Thai ride-hailing services, where often unlicensed drivers are on the road. Social media users are now demanding drastically better protective measures for young female passengers.
