BANGKOK, THAILAND – Songkran celebrations on Silom Road ended on schedule at 8 p.m. on 14 April as authorities moved to reopen the street to traffic.

The water festivities for the Songkran festival on Silom Road were officially brought to a close at 8 p.m. on 14 April. Officials said the conclusion followed the planned timetable.
Police and the responsible district offices then began measures to restore order and normal traffic conditions. Their stated aim was to clear the carriageway for vehicles again.
Access closures around Silom Road
Officers blocked access points to Silom Road at all surrounding locations using metal barriers. Announcements were made at the same time, calling on visitors to stop all activities immediately.
These steps were taken because very large numbers of people were still in the area. Authorities sought to calm the situation in a controlled manner and to initiate the clearing of the site.
One-way rule for pedestrians to prevent dangerous crushes
Due to the high density of people, emergency personnel adjusted pedestrian routing. Visitors were allowed to leave the area only in a single direction.
This was intended to prevent opposing flows of people and the formation of dangerously tight spaces. Such conditions at large events can increase the risk of falls and injuries.
Crowds disperse towards BTS and MRT
Many tourists left the area on foot and headed for public transport. The outflow of people proceeded continuously and in an orderly fashion.
The BTS Sala Daeng station and the MRT Silom station were cited as the main destinations. These transport hubs serve as the key interchange points in the neighborhood.
Authorities warn of loss and theft in dense crowds
Emergency personnel urged those still in the zone to follow instructions strictly.
“This was meant to ensure a safe and swift dispersal from the event area.”
said authorities, according to the report.
They also reminded visitors to check their personal belongings before leaving. In dense crowds, it is easier for items to be lost or stolen, the officials warned.
