PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 49-year-old motorcyclist was killed on New Year’s Day on a connector road near Pattaya, the third fatal traffic accident in the area on the first day of the year.
High-powered motorcycle crash on connector road
The crash occurred on the Bo-Win–Huay-Yai Road in Banglamung district, where the rider of a Honda CBR650 reportedly lost control. The motorcycle hit the concrete central barrier, and the force of the impact threw the rider onward into a road sign pole.
Rescue workers find rider dead at the scene
Rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya were alerted shortly after the accident. They found the red big bike badly damaged near the central divider, with the rider lying nearby.
The victim was identified as Suchep Wechasathit, 49, who was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries from the high-impact collision.
Police review CCTV to reconstruct sequence
Police Lieutenant Prakasit Phaladet, the duty investigator at Huay Yai Police Station, examined the crash site and collected evidence for further analysis. According to officers, CCTV footage from the area showed Suchep riding from the direction of Bo Win before losing control near the crash location, striking the median and then being hurled into the direction sign pole.
The police documented the evidence and were checking additional surveillance cameras to reconstruct the exact sequence of events. The body was to be released for religious ceremonies in coordination with the family.
Authorities warn of speed risks during holidays
After the fatal crash, authorities reminded all road users to exercise heightened caution during the holiday period, stressing that excessive speed remained a central risk on local roads. They highlighted factors such as high speeds on powerful motorcycles, inattention on highways and connector routes, and increased traffic volumes on public holidays.
“The goal, especially on New Year’s, was to reduce accidents and road deaths as much as possible.”
said emergency responders.
Third traffic death in Pattaya area on New Year’s Day
The death of Suchep Wechasathit was already the third fatal accident in the Pattaya area on New Year’s Day. According to officials, a Russian national and a suspect with a possible link to a drug network had also died earlier in separate incidents.
Authorities stated that multiple fatal crashes within a single day underscored the high accident risk in the holiday region around Pattaya, particularly for motorcyclists on busy arterial and outbound roads.
