PATTAYA, THAILAND – Pattaya City advanced a 318-million-baht second phase of sand replenishment at Jomtien Beach, aimed at expanding leisure space and strengthening coastal protection along Thailand’s eastern seaboard.
City officials in Pattaya reported that the ongoing works formed part of a multi-year programme scheduled for completion on 13 July 2027, following an earlier construction phase completed in 2022.
Jomtien Beach Expansion Project Moves Ahead
PATTAYA, THAILAND – Reporters in Pattaya observed excavators, bulldozers and suction dredgers operating in 300-metre segments along the Jomtien Beach promenade, with site engineers coordinating a 900-day construction schedule for the coastal expansion.
The Marine Department contracted Nawarat Patanakarn Public Company Limited for the second phase in Pattaya under a 318-million-baht agreement that set a completion date of 13 July 2027 for the extended beachfront.
During a recent drone survey over Jomtien Beach in Pattaya, media crews recorded ships pumping sand ashore while heavy machinery reshaped the newly deposited areas to align with Pattaya City’s long-term coastal development plan.
First Phase: 586 Million Baht and 640,000 m³ of Sand
The first project phase at Jomtien Beach started in 2020 in Pattaya and involved Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited, which carried out works valued at more than 586 million baht.
Engineers from Italian-Thai transported over 640,000 cubic metres of sand from the nearby island Ko Rang Kwian to Jomtien Beach in Pattaya to widen the shoreline.
Construction teams between the Jomtien Chalet Hotel and U Jomtien Pattaya Hotel extended a 3.5-kilometre coastal strip in Pattaya to an average width of 50 metres, before handing the completed section to Pattaya City in 2022 for maintenance.
Second Phase Extends Towards Dongtan Beach
Officials from Pattaya City Hall confirmed that the second phase would push the Jomtien Beach expansion northwards towards Dongtan Beach in Chonburi province to increase capacity for visitors.
The city administration in Pattaya described the Jomtien–Dongtan shoreline upgrade as a key step in modernising the resort’s tourism infrastructure while building a wider physical buffer against erosion caused by wind and waves in the Gulf of Thailand.
Environmental Monitoring and Management
Project managers in Pattaya outlined ongoing environmental oversight measures along Jomtien Beach associated with the sand refill works.
Authorities in Pattaya and technical consultants listed the following focus areas for the coastal monitoring programme at Jomtien Beach:
- Long-term control of sand stability along the widened Jomtien shoreline in Pattaya
- Analysis of impacts on the coastal ecosystem near Jomtien and Dongtan Beach in Chonburi
- Structured management of public beach areas under Pattaya City’s jurisdiction
