Teen Hurt in Pattaya Early Morning Crash

14-year-old motorcyclist struck at red light; dashcam shows collision at Pattaya Central intersection

PATTAYA, THAILAND – Shortly after 5 a.m. on 18 October 2025, a 14-year-old motorcyclist collided with a car at the Pattaya Central intersection on Sukhumvit Road, leaving the teenager with a severe leg fracture.

Crash details

The accident occurred at 5:06 a.m. when the teenager, riding a Yamaha Grand Filano, entered the intersection on a red light and struck a white Honda Jazz that was proceeding on a green signal. The Jazz, driven by 29-year-old Alongkorn Suwannasri, suffered heavy front-end damage; its driver was reported uninjured.

Dashcam evidence

A dashcam mounted in the Honda captured the collision in full. The footage shows the Honda entering the junction on green as the motorcycle suddenly appeared from the U-turn lane and the vehicles collided seconds later. Pattaya police secured the video as evidence to determine the precise sequence of events and whether additional violations were involved.

Victim and response

Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit treated the boy at the scene and took him to hospital with a serious fracture to his leg. The motorcycle was reported to be heavily damaged. According to first responders, the teenager told them, “I had been in a hurry and wanted to check” on a restaurant where a small fire had reportedly occurred earlier.

Driver and immediate actions

Alongkorn told officers he had braked but could not avoid the impact. “He came out of nowhere. I could not avoid it,” he told police. He remained at the scene, assisted the injured teenager and called for rescue services.

Investigation and legal context

Pattaya police confirmed the rider was below Thailand’s legal minimum age for operating a motorcycle; the law currently sets the minimum at 15. Officers said they were examining whether the boy’s parents or guardians could face legal consequences. A police spokesman warned, “Speeding and running red lights are among the main causes of serious accidents, especially among young drivers.”

Police continue to review the dashcam footage and witness statements as part of an ongoing investigation into the causes of the crash. Authorities said a brief moment of haste had nearly cost the teenager his life.
