Woman shoots herself after argument

21-year-old found wounded after police responded to reported firearms incident in Chachoengsao

Chachoengsao, Thailand – A 21-year-old woman shot herself in the chest after a dispute with her boyfriend, prompting a large police response and emergency medical evacuation, authorities said.

Immediate response to a reported shooting

Armed officers from the Bang Pakong police station were deployed to a two-storey house in Bang Pakong district on October 22 after the home owner, identified as Thanakorn (52), reported a firearms incident. The report led to a heightened response from police, who arrived at the scene fearing an ongoing shooting.

Victim located by family

Thanakorn told investigators he found the young woman, referred to in media only as “A”, lying in a bedroom on the second floor with a gunshot wound to her chest and immediately called the authorities. Police and emergency medical teams transported her to hospital, where she received emergency treatment.

Injury details and condition

Local broadcaster Channel 7 reported the bullet had pierced her chest and exited through her back. Initial reports indicated the woman survived the injury and was under medical care. Police said they were waiting for her condition to stabilise before taking a formal statement.

Weapon initially missing from scene

At the house, investigators found an empty ammunition box and a container of 9mm rounds, but the pistol was not immediately located. Neighbour On-anong (38) later told officers that the woman had contacted her by video call and admitted the self-harm attempt. In a panic, On-anong said she had removed the firearm, placed it in a plastic bag and handed it to a family member. Police subsequently located and secured the weapon.

Background and investigation status

Investigators said the woman had been suffering from depression and had argued with her boyfriend shortly before the incident. She was apparently in the process of moving out of the house when the shooting occurred. Authorities classified the case as self-inflicted and questioned all parties involved; further inquiries were pending the victim’s recovery.

The incident drew attention to the intersection of relationship conflict and mental health, and police urged anyone facing a crisis to seek medical and community support. Officials confirmed there was no ongoing criminal threat to the neighbourhood and that the investigation would continue to establish the full circumstances once the victim could be interviewed.
