Violent Break-In Shocks German Couple in Khao Lak

KHAO LAK, THAILAND A German retiree and his wife endured a terrifying home invasion in Khao Lak, after an unknown assailant broke into their house through the roof and attacked them with a glass bottle as they slept. Both victims suffered head injuries and required hospital treatment.

Intruder Enters Through the Roof

In the early hours of October 11, at around 1:30 a.m., the unimaginable occurred. While 61-year-old Thomas and Beate were asleep in their home in the Takua Pa district, a burglar removed a roof tile at the back of the house and entered through a ceiling panel in the kitchen.

Armed with a bottle of alcohol, the intruder crept into the bedroom and struck the unsuspecting couple on their heads. The Germans awoke to the blows, but the attacker had already fled through the kitchen window into the night.

Crime Scene Reveals Grim Evidence

When police arrived at approximately 2:00 a.m., they were met with a shocking scene: blood spatters on the bed and bedroom floor, and the shattered bottle nearby. The injured couple was rushed to Khao Lak Medical Center, where they were treated for head lacerations.

Police Lieutenant Jaran Srirak of the Khao Lak Police Station is leading the investigation. “The victims did not see the attacker’s face, only his silhouette from behind,” he reported.

Forensic Investigation Underway

Investigators are now relying on advanced forensic technology. Specialists from the Phang Nga forensic unit are collecting DNA traces and fingerprints at the scene. Every fiber and hair could prove crucial.

Special attention is being paid to the damaged roof tile and kitchen ceiling panel, where the perpetrator may have left skin cells or fabric fibers. Police remain confident they will apprehend the suspect.

Tourism Region on High Alert

The incident has sent shockwaves through Khao Lak’s tourism community. The area is home to many foreign retirees, who now fear for their safety. Police have promised increased patrols in response.

A neighbor of the German couple expressed his dismay: “We have never experienced anything like this here. Our neighborhood has always been considered safe.” Residents are now left wondering: was this a targeted attack or a random break-in?

Search for the Attacker Continues

The couple is slowly recovering from the traumatic ordeal, while police continue their urgent search for the perpetrator and are appealing for public assistance.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious persons or vehicles in Soi Khao Wong on the night of October 11 is urged to contact the Khao Lak Police Station. One thing is certain: a violent criminal like this could strike again.
