Nighttime crash on Second Road
At around 3am on September 12, Pattaya’s Second Road near the Pratamnak Road intersection was busy when a red Honda CBR 150 carrying two Thai women collided with two Indian tourists on foot. Emergency responders from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan rushed to the scene.
The injured were identified as Ms Benyaporn and her passenger, Ms Saranya (36). Both sustained injuries, with Saranya suffering particularly severe trauma. First responders provided urgent aid before transporting them to a nearby hospital.
Tourists ignore honks and flee
Eyewitnesses told police that the Indian tourists were walking arm-in-arm, blocking the road. The motorcycle rider repeatedly honked to warn them, but they ignored the signals and continued, making the collision unavoidable.
Instead of helping the injured, the tourists immediately entered a nearby hotel and disappeared from the scene. Their hit-and-run on foot shocked both witnesses and authorities.
Police gather evidence
Pattaya police meticulously documented the scene with photographs and secured all available evidence. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being reviewed to reconstruct the incident.
“We will carefully examine all evidence and take legal action,” said an officer, noting that leaving the scene without providing assistance could carry serious consequences.
Legal questions
Liability is complex. Pedestrians generally do not have the right of way on the road, but motorcyclists must maintain safe speed and vigilance, particularly in busy tourist areas like Pattaya.
However, the ignored honks and the tourists’ failure to assist weigh heavily. If identified, they could face legal repercussions not only for causing the accident but also for their subsequent behavior.
