PATONG, THAILAND – A US tourist was knocked unconscious in a street fight on Patong’s Bangla Road, raising renewed concerns over violence on Phuket’s busiest party strip.
Tourist knocked out in street brawl
Video shared on the Phuket Times Facebook channel shows two foreign men, one in a white shirt and the other in an orange shirt, trading punches in the middle of Bangla Road. The footage is accompanied by the mocking caption:
“Bangla Stadium! Free boxing show! One-punch knockout!”
said the Phuket Times Facebook channel.
The man in the white shirt lands a clean blow to his opponent’s head, sending the man in orange collapsing to the pavement, apparently unconscious. While the winner walks away, onlookers and members of the tourist police rush to assist the victim.
A man in a blue T-shirt is seen gently tapping the injured tourist’s cheeks in an attempt to revive him. According to the official tourist police page,
“The foreigner suffered an injury near his left eyebrow.”
said the Tourist Police, adding that the Kusoldham Patong rescue service transported him to hospital.
Attacker at large as police probe continues
Authorities identified the victim as a US citizen, but the attacker has not yet been named and is believed to have left the scene before officers could detain him. It is still unclear whether the injured American has filed a complaint. The tourist police continue to investigate the incident, which occurred on the evening of 16 November during peak nightlife hours on Bangla Road.
Local reports note that this is not the first violent episode on the notorious party strip. In June, two tourists were allegedly knocked out by a group of Thais. April saw a fight between two foreigners, while another brawl in May involved Thai ladyboys.
Witnesses have also reported an incident in which a group of four to five trans women allegedly injured Israeli tourists. These repeated clashes have fueled perceptions of a growing violence problem on Bangla Road and raised questions about safety in Thailand’s major resort destinations.
Commentators warn that ongoing street fights and public disturbances are causing significant reputational damage to Phuket, as international visitors expect a safe holiday rather than recurring violent confrontations in the heart of its nightlife district.
