CHIANG MAI, Thailand – A Chinese tourist was abandoned by her approximately 18-20 year old daughter in front of a luxury residential complex’s guardhouse in Saraphi District on Sunday morning, prompting police intervention. The young woman was taken to the tourist police, and authorities are treating it as a family matter, with plans for mediation with the mother.

Report on Sunday Morning

Police Lieutenant Thanang Wannasiri of the Saraphi Police Station received a report at 7:30 AM about a woman who had been left behind in front of the guardhouse of a residential complex near Xingsheng School in Chai Sathan Subdistrict. Officers proceeded to the location and took over the case after the guard personnel reported the situation.

What Officers Found

Responding officers encountered an approximately 18-20 year old Chinese woman sitting alone and visibly distressed in front of the guardhouse. The residential complex staff provided moral support to the young woman while the police requested assistance from the Chiang Mai Tourist Police.

Daughter’s Account of the Dispute

The woman explained to the officers that she had traveled to Chiang Mai with her mother, and the two had gotten into an argument. According to her statement, her mother drove her to the guardhouse and left her there before disappearing from the scene, according to police.

Next Steps: Mediation or Consulate

The tourist police brought the woman to their office. Authorities intend to contact the mother and attempt to resolve the dispute through mediation, according to officials. Should this mediation fail, the Chinese Consulate in Chiang Mai is to be involved.
