PATTAYA, THAILAND – A reportedly drunken foreign tourist was arrested after allegedly damaging a municipal patrol vehicle in one of Pattaya’s busiest nightlife streets.
Incident in Soi 6 entertainment strip
In the early hours of Wednesday, authorities said the incident occurred at around 1.20 a.m. in Soi 6 off Pattaya Beach Road, an area lined with beer bars and night venues. A patrol of municipal order officers was conducting a routine round to monitor public order in the crowded entertainment district.
Officer describes sudden, aggressive attack
Municipal officer Udon Woranam said the team first noticed the man because of his conspicuous, aggressive behavior.
“As we were driving through the middle of Soi 6, the foreigner suddenly approached our vehicle without any apparent reason and began hitting it forcefully,”
said Udon Woranam, municipal officer. According to the account, the patrol car sustained property damage, though officials initially did not provide details on the extent.
Arrest and identification difficulties
The officers said they immediately got out, overpowered the man and took him to the Pattaya City Police Station. There, police attempted to question the suspect about the incident and his identity, but his high level of intoxication reportedly made communication almost impossible. He carried no identification documents and at first did not give a name, and in the holding cell he allegedly sang loudly and disrupted operations at the station.
Expected charges after sobering-up period
Investigators placed the man in a cell so he could sober up before further questioning and the initiation of legal steps. Police indicated the case would likely involve charges of damage to a municipal vehicle and disturbance of public order under applicable law. Authorities had not yet disclosed possible penalties, additional allegations, the man’s identity or more detailed information on the damage by Wednesday afternoon.
Stepped-up patrols in tourist nightlife zones
Officials in Pattaya have increased night patrols in entertainment zones in recent months due to recurring problems with heavily intoxicated visitors in popular party streets. The coastal city remained one of Thailand’s key international tourist hotspots, especially for nightlife and beaches, and the administration sought to balance this role with a visible police presence and firm action against public disturbances.
