PATTAYA, THAILAND – A serious multi-vehicle collision on Sukhumvit Road in Chonburi province killed three people and injured 16 others in the early hours of the morning.
Crash near Ban-Na Bridge in Thung Sukhla
The collision occurred in the Thung Sukhla subdistrict on a curved section of Sukhumvit Road just before the Ban-Na Bridge in the direction of Pattaya. Rescue teams from the Sawang Prateep Sri Racha Foundation treated the injured together with emergency doctors from Laem Chabang Clinic, Samitivej Hospital and Queen Sirikit Marine Hospital, supported by officers from Laem Chabang Police Station.
Three vehicles heavily damaged
At the scene, responders found three severely damaged vehicles: two passenger vans and a white Ford Everest SUV registered in Chonburi province. The Ford Everest had extensive front-end damage and came to a stop in the far-right lane, where a deceased man was found nearby.
Vans overturned, passengers trapped
One of the vans, a white Toyota with Bangkok license plate ฮษ 1552, had overturned in the middle lane and was badly deformed. Another van with Bangkok plate ฮภ 2203 had also flipped and was so heavily damaged that several passengers were trapped and had to be freed by rescue workers using hydraulic equipment.
Three dead at the scene, 16 injured
In total, 16 people were injured in the crash, while three others – two men and one woman – died at the scene. According to initial information, the driver and front passenger of the involved vans were among the fatalities, and some occupants were thrown from the vehicles by the impact.
Survivors describe loss of control in curve
Survivors, including a passenger in the Ford Everest traveling toward Pattaya, reported that one van apparently began to skid in the curve, crossed the lane and collided head-on with the second van. The force of the collision caused both vans to spin, overturn and block the roadway, leading the following Ford Everest to crash into one of the vehicles.
Police probe speed and road conditions
Police documented the crash site with photographs and forensic evidence and sent the bodies to Laem Chabang Hospital for autopsy, while the injured were transferred to nearby clinics for further treatment. Investigators stated they were examining whether speed, road conditions or driver error contributed to the crash and said that appropriate legal steps would follow once the inquiry was complete.
Major traffic disruption in early commute
The accident caused significant congestion on the heavily used Sukhumvit Road, a key link between Laem Chabang Port and the coastal city of Pattaya. Authorities urged motorists to drive with particular caution, especially on poorly visible bends.
Accident-prone stretch under scrutiny
The section of Sukhumvit Road between Laem Chabang and Pattaya has long been regarded as one of the most accident-prone routes in Chonburi. Road safety organizations have repeatedly called for stricter speed controls and structural improvements at especially dangerous curves to reduce the number of serious crashes on this busy corridor.
