BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thailand bid farewell to a fallen army officer with a royal military funeral and unprecedented state support for his family.
Prime minister’s tribute at royal funeral
In social media posts, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul shared an image of the royal funeral ceremony for Major General Satawat Sujarit, who died in a border conflict.
“Soldiers must be strong,”

“Military children must be strong. Be happy. Have money.”

According to the army, the state put in place a special allowance at level 9 for the bereaved family. This package included royal promotion payments, moral support funds and compensation from the army life insurance scheme. Additional benefits covered funeral assistance, estate-related payments and support from aid funds, bringing the total to 12,072,652 baht (around 300,000 euros).

In a rare gesture, Satawat Sujarit was posthumously promoted from sergeant major to major general. The farewell ceremony followed strict military and royal protocols, highlighting the national significance of his sacrifice.
