ARABIAN SEA – A Thai cargo ship sailing under national flag was struck by an unknown object in the Arabian Sea and forced to be abandoned by its crew.
Attack on Thai freighter in the Arabian Sea
The Thai freighter MAYUREE NAREE (IMO 9323649, callsign HSGM) belonged to shipping company Peachius Company and sailed under the Thai flag. The vessel was on a route from the United Arab Emirates to Kandla in India when the incident occurred.
Shortly after passing the Strait of Hormuz, about 50 nautical miles off Dubai, the ship was reportedly hit by an unknown object or weapons system. Who was behind the attack remained completely unclear, and no group or state actor was identified in the initial reports.
Fire in engine room – crew forced to abandon ship
The impact reportedly triggered a fire in the rear engine room of the freighter. The blaze caused significant damage and left the vessel out of control and unable to maneuver.
The situation ultimately forced the crew to abandon the ship. There were 23 crew members on board, but their condition had not yet been officially confirmed at the time of the initial reports.
Navy coordinates rescue operation
After the incident became known, the navy immediately initiated assistance measures. Coordination efforts were under way for the rapid rescue of the crew and for further examination of the attack.
It was still unclear what type of object or weapon had struck the freighter and whether the attack had been deliberately targeted. Investigations into the incident were ongoing.
