PATTAYA, THAILAND — Two 13-year-old boys suffered serious injuries on 4 November 2025 after a motorbike crash on the new connecting road in Ban Phu Sai, Chonburi Province, around 17:00, according to the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Center.
Race on Chonburi road ends in tragedy
Rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan reported finding a red-and-black Honda Wave 110 lying in the middle of the road when their team arrived at Moo 5 within ten minutes of the emergency call. Two injured boys were discovered beside the vehicle, one conscious with multiple abrasions and the other, identified as Phirun, aged 13, unconscious and in critical condition.
Team leader Somchai Rattanapat, speaking at the scene, said volunteers performed first aid for seven minutes before both were transferred by ambulance to Pattaya Memorial Hospital, where doctors administered emergency treatment.
Parents arrive to distressing scene
Rescue worker Kittipong Chantharak described the moment the parents arrived as “the hardest part of the night.” He recalled that Phirun’s mother screamed “WAKE UP, SON, MAMA IS HERE!” while holding his hand beside the ambulance doors. At least fifteen bystanders gathered near kilometre marker 3 during the rescue, many taking videos later shared across social media platforms in Pattaya.
Police from Huay Yai Station recorded the scene at 17:45, collecting debris, photographs, and witness statements. Officers later confirmed that the boys attended a local secondary school and were both in Grade 8.
Youth street racing revealed
Preliminary questioning of the conscious rider revealed that four boys, each on separate motorbikes, were competing along the new Ban Phu Sai road at approximately 70 kilometres per hour. The unnamed boy told officers that Phirun lost control while overtaking, collided with another motorcycle, and both fell.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Prasert Nuanchai of the Huay Yai Police, none of the riders held a driving licence. “ILLEGAL RACES ON PUBLIC STREETS ARE A DIRECT THREAT TO LIFE,” he told reporters, confirming that police had identified the two additional participants and summoned their parents for questioning.
Key dangers identified by Pattaya police
The Chonburi Provincial Police listed the following recurring risks linked to teenage motorcycle races:
• Lack of driving experience among riders under 16
• High speeds on poorly lit rural roads
• Absence of protective gear and helmets
Colonel Prasert added that a detailed investigation report would be forwarded to the Chonburi Juvenile Court within five days.
Growing traffic concerns in coastal city
Pattaya, located about 150 kilometres southeast of Bangkok, has seen a steady increase in traffic incidents involving minors over the past two years. Data gathered by the Chonburi Traffic Safety Bureau recorded at least 28 accidents involving riders under 18 during 2024 alone.
City health officer Dr. Nattaporn Boonchai confirmed that Pattaya Memorial Hospital treated two underage crash victims in the same week as the Ban Phu Sai accident. She announced plans for an awareness programme on 10 November 2025, targeting families of students at local schools.
Authorities call for parental vigilance
Huay Yai Police concluded their field report at 18:30 with a warning to the public. “PARENTS MUST KNOW WHERE THEIR CHILDREN RIDE AND WITH WHOM,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Prasert, urging cooperation between families and teachers to prevent further races.
Local officials reported that the two injured boys remained hospitalised as of 5 November 2025, with Phirun still in intensive care.
