Heartbreak in Phattalung: Teen ends her life after school row
Sixteen-year-old ‘Look Mod’ from Phattalung has taken her own life with her father’s police gun. Her parents made the shocking discovery on 24 September, finding her lifeless in her bedroom. Their world changed in a moment.
Police and doctors rushed to the scene in the Tung Naree Subdistrict. They confirmed the teenager died from a gunshot wound to the back of her head. The 11mm pistol, belonging to her father—a police officer—lay next to her. Her body was sent to Pa Bon Hospital for autopsy, then returned to her family for burial.
Pressure to change schools led to tragedy
Look Mod, still just 16, was under immense pressure from her parents. They wanted her to leave her current school in Rattaphum, Songkhla, for a larger school in Hat Yai. But she was terrified. She didn’t believe she could keep up at a new school.
Her boyfriend, Nat, 16, shared her anguish. ‘She blamed herself—she felt she’d let her parents down,’ Nat said, shaken. Just one week earlier, Look Mod told him about the planned move.
Friend’s desperate attempt to help
On the day of the tragedy, Nat visited Look Mod while her parents were out. He tried to calm her. ‘Don’t overthink it,’ he pleaded. But she worried her parents would suspect his visit.
‘Nothing happened between us,’ Nat insisted. ‘I only wanted to help her through this.’ But after he left, he got a call from her mother—a call that changed everything.
Deadly weapon, painful twist
Police confirmed the pistol was her father’s. Relatives say he often took Look Mod to the shooting range, so she knew guns well. This cruel irony stings even more for the grieving family.
This tragedy highlights the crushing pressure on Thailand’s youth. The fear of falling short in their parents’ eyes can drive teens to despair.
Seeking help when despair strikes
This heartache is a stark reminder. Young people need urgent psychological support. If you, or someone you know, is suffering, don’t struggle alone. Call Samaritans of Thailand (02 713 6791—English, 02 713 6793—Thai) or Thai Mental Health Hotline (1323—Thai).
Speak to friends or family if you feel alone, stressed, or hopeless. Even in the darkest moments, there is always a way through.
