Teen electrocuted in Samut Prakan floodwaters
A 17-year-old boy has died after being electrocuted while pushing his motorcycle through floodwaters in Samut Prakan late on September 7. The incident occurred on Phraeksa Road, near a local noodle shop, as the teenager attempted to make his way toward Khlong Kao in Mueang district. Hours of heavy rain had left the area deeply submerged.
Rescue workers from the Ruam Kuson Samut Prakan Foundation reported that the victim, identified only as Thanakorn, had been walking his motorbike through the water when a speeding pickup truck passed. The vehicle sent a wave surging against him, knocking the boy off balance and into a roadside construction barrier.
Officials said the barrier was fitted with electrical cables powering temporary lighting equipment. A suspected current leakage had turned the wires live, and when the boy came into contact, he was instantly electrocuted. Witnesses stated that he collapsed face-first into the water, where he died before help could reach him.
Emergency responders, including police officers, rescue teams and technicians from the Provincial Electricity Authority, rushed to the scene. Power in the immediate area was cut to eliminate further danger and allow the safe recovery of the body. The teenager was later taken for examination before being released to his family for funeral rites.
Police investigators confirmed that the exact cause of the electrical leakage is now under review. Authorities have also pledged to examine safety measures at the construction site, with a focus on preventing similar accidents in flood-prone areas of Samut Prakan.
