PHUKET, THAILAND – A late-night taxi ride on the holiday island ended in a serious dispute after a driver ordered a Russian couple out of his vehicle over alleged misconduct.
Late-night ride from Rawai to Patong escalated
The taxi driver had picked up a Russian couple in Rawai late in the evening, with their destination set for the nightlife in Patong. The pair already appeared tipsy when they got into the car, and their behavior reportedly worsened as the ride continued. According to the Facebook page “Phuket Times”, the couple began to behave inappropriately in the back seat of the taxi.
Driver described feeling cornered
The driver immediately switched on the interior light and told the tourists to stop what they were doing. His request apparently had no effect, and the passengers were said to have become aggressive as the atmosphere in the car deteriorated.
“I had no other choice. I had to stop and ask them to get out,”
said the driver, according to local media.
Confrontation on the roadside
The situation came to a head on a road in Phuket, where the taxi stopped and the passengers were ordered out. The male tourist was reportedly angry and moved towards the driver in a confrontational manner. The driver threatened to call the police, after which the Russian man allegedly responded:
“I have money, I will pay for the ride. Let’s keep going.”
said the male tourist.

The Phuket police had not officially commented on the incident, and it remained unclear whether a complaint had been filed. The case highlighted underlying tensions between locals and visitors on the popular island.
