PHUKET, THAILAND – A Polish tourist was in a life-threatening condition after falling from the fourth floor of a hotel in Phuket late Thursday afternoon.
Tourist critically injured behind shopping centre
Emergency services were alerted at about 5:48 p.m. after the fall at a hotel on Soi Bang Yai, located directly behind the Big C shopping centre on the bypass road in Wichit. A hotel employee discovered the seriously injured guest on the ground and immediately called rescue workers, who provided first aid at the scene before transporting 31-year-old Lukasz Wladyslaw Stepien to Bangkok Hospital Siriroj.
Doctors at the hospital described the Polish tourist’s condition as life-threatening and continued to fight for his life. The exact cause of the fall remained unclear, and police launched a comprehensive investigation to clarify the circumstances.
Police probe possible foul play
“We are inspecting the area on the fourth floor and questioning all available witnesses.”
said a police officer at the scene. The inquiry was being conducted at the highest level, with Lieutenant Colonel Somsak Thongkliang, chief of Wichit police, personally overseeing the case.
Captain Watcharakon Suwan was appointed lead investigator, and his team meticulously documented the scene. A central question for investigators was whether the incident was an unfortunate accident or whether foul play might have been involved.
Appeal for witnesses in busy area
Police urgently sought additional witnesses who may have seen the incident, stressing that any detail could be important. The hotel is located in a busy part of Wichit near a major shopping centre, and passers-by may have observed something relevant to the case.
For the Polish tourist and his family, the fall marked the beginning of a period of deep uncertainty. Investigators pledged to examine all leads carefully as they worked to determine what happened in the moments before the fall.
