BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thailand’s national police chief has ordered a nationwide reorganization of railway crossings after a survey identified 249 crossings as illegal and dangerous. During a meeting on May 26, 2026, at the Srijanond Hall of the Police Headquarters, Police General Kittirat Phanphet outlined concrete measures, including stricter controls, technical surveillance, and clear traffic rules to prevent accidents.

The collaboration is set to involve the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the State Railway of Thailand, and the Bangkok Transit Authority to install systems at crossings or close particularly dangerous points.

Drivers must reduce speed and stop at least 5 meters before the tracks; stopping or parking on railway crossings or yellow markings is prohibited. Additionally, real-time surveillance cameras are to be installed to monitor traffic situations and provide faster warnings in case of danger.
