PHUKET, THAILAND – Phuket Police launched a large-scale operation on Saturday targeting illegal shell companies, questionable foreign investments, and drug-related crime. The province-wide sweep involved raids on three international schools, checks on tourism enterprises, and actions within the drug scene, reinforcing the military government’s zero-tolerance policy.
The Big Blow Against Shell Companies
Provincial Police Commander Major General Sinlert Sukhum, along with Police Colonel Surasak Jaidee from the Chalong Station, assembled a broad coalition. This alliance included immigration officers, district authorities, and law enforcement from Rawai and Chalong. The operation was a direct order from Bangkok, aimed at uncovering and dismantling nominee companies where foreigners illicitly control businesses through Thai proxies.
Three International Schools Searched
Under provincial court warrants, officers inspected three international schools in Rawai and Chalong. Investigators examined ownership documents, registration records, and management structures. The primary concern was that foreign investors might have illegally gained control of educational institutions using Thai nominees.
ATV Rentals Under Scrutiny
Simultaneously, inspectors examined ATV rental businesses. Authorities sought to prevent illegally funded foreign companies from freely infiltrating the island’s booming tourism sector. Operators were firmly reminded of safety standards and the necessity of lawful registration.
Drug Raid in Thai Mai
The police took strong action in the Thai Mai Community. Three suspects were arrested, and 206 methamphetamine pills were seized. Additionally, four individuals who tested positive for drugs were immediately sent for rehabilitation.
Elephant Camps Targeted
At approximately 3:30 PM, Lieutenant Colonel Chakrapong Phetcharat and Lieutenant Colonel Siripong Suriyan expanded the operation to include elephant camps and adventure tourism companies. Tourist police and city officials provided support. Operators now face strict checks on their business registrations as authorities emphasize stringent safety regulations to protect guests and Phuket’s image as a premium destination.
Zero Tolerance as Declaration of War
Police Colonel Surasak Jaidee clearly stated the operation’s resolve.
“We are determined to uncover and dismantle illegal businesses that exploit loopholes in the law,”
he declared following the raids. The Chalong police plan to expand investigations with several agencies to restore diligence and public trust.

Authorities have signaled that these checks are not a one-off event. In coordination with national bodies, the island’s economy will be protected from illicit structures, and community safety will be enhanced.
