Local motorbike taxi driver Chatchai Khumchum, 39, who worked in busy tourist areas, described a blend of concern and pragmatism.
“I was really shocked when I heard about the measures and the outbreak in India,”
said Chatchai, motorbike taxi driver.
“Pattaya has many Indian tourists, so of course I worry about a possible spread of diseases. But I still have to earn my living.”

He stressed that he had adjusted his routine to reduce risk in his everyday work. According to Chatchai, this included wearing a mask while on duty, washing his hands frequently, choosing hot food and using his own cutlery.

Chatchai urged residents and business operators in Pattaya to take their own protective measures seriously and to stay informed about developments. He recommended relying primarily on official government sources and other trusted information channels, and remaining alert in case the situation evolved to the point where tourism or public safety in the region might be affected.

While some locals whose livelihoods depended heavily on tourism feared imported cases, Pattaya’s streets so far showed no obvious signs of declining visitor numbers. The development highlighted the resort’s resilience in the face of distant global health crises. At the same time, the relevant authorities continued to closely monitor the Nipah situation as part of broader preparedness efforts for infectious diseases.
