PATTAYA, THAILAND – Authorities in Banglamung ordered intensified foot patrols along Pattaya Beach on the evening of 24 February 2026 after an attack on a German holidaymaker.
Trigger: Attack on German tourist
The deployment was directly linked to an incident in which a 55-year-old German tourist had been assaulted and injured on Pattaya Beach Road by a group of transgender Thai women. The dispute stemmed from a conflict over allegedly missing money from the visitor’s hotel room and was subsequently reported nationwide in the media.
District chief’s decision
The district chief of Banglamung, Anusak Piriyamorn, ordered a proactive joint patrol along the entire beach section at around 10 p.m. following the incident. Authorities said the move responded to growing concerns about safety in the internationally popular seaside resort and aimed to protect the city’s image as a secure destination.
Composition of the security forces
Civil administrative officials from Banglamung district took part in the operation together with officers from the Pattaya Tourist Police and other police units. The police component was led by Pol. Lt. Col. Phawit Chimphali, an inspector with the Pattaya Tourist Police, who coordinated the deployment on the ground.
How the beach checks unfolded
Mixed teams first assembled at the Tourist Police checkpoint in front of the Mike Shopping Mall on Pattaya Beach Road and then moved on foot down to the beach. From there, they carried out checks along the entire shoreline, focusing on areas with many holidaymakers and zones previously classified as high risk.
Focus on risk groups and identity checks
During the patrol, officers targeted groups in public spaces and paid particular attention to gatherings of transgender women in order to prevent potential crimes or harassment at an early stage. Suspected individuals were approached, asked to confirm their identity, recorded in registers and issued clear warnings to comply with the law.
Reactions and outlook
According to the authorities, the night-time operation passed without disruption, with no fights, serious offences or notable incidents recorded. The atmosphere on the beach remained lively, and many Thai and international guests cooperated well with the officers, according to local officials, expressing confidence in the ongoing security efforts, which were expected to continue as a regular measure.
