Pattaya, Thailand – The annual Loy Krathong celebration on Pattaya Beach will go ahead on November 5, with this year’s festivities dedicated to honoring the enduring legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
Under the theme “The Flow of Eternal Loyalty, Forever in Our Hearts,” officials have announced a series of tributes and modified activities designed to reflect remembrance and reverence.
A highlight of the event will be the Little Noppamas Pageant Contest, featuring contestants dressed in one of eight royal-favored traditional Thai costumes. Participants will also deliver short addresses about the royal duties of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, emphasizing her lifelong commitment to improving the lives of the Thai people. The winner will represent Pattaya in traditional attire during the upcoming Pattaya International Fireworks Festival, also organized under the theme “The Light of Eternal Loyalty, Forever in Our Hearts.”
Event organizers have also planned ceremonies and performances to express collective grief and gratitude toward the late Queen Mother’s contributions to Thai culture, environmental stewardship, and community development. Prior to the festival’s start, all attendees will observe a one-minute silence in remembrance.
In keeping with the tone of tribute, both Thai and international visitors are encouraged to wear any of the eight royal-favored Thai outfits accompanied by a black ribbon, or otherwise dress in muted tones as a mark of respect. Condolence stations will be set up throughout the event area, giving participants the chance to pay their respects personally.
Environmental and safety adjustments have also been made. Organizers have reiterated that there will be no floating of krathongs in the sea this year to protect the marine environment. Instead, visitors may symbolically float them online or use the specially arranged ponds and pools within the venue. The festival will also enforce a complete ban on the sale and lighting of fireworks, sparklers, and sky lanterns to ensure safety and maintain an atmosphere of solemnity.
Local authorities have expressed the hope that this year’s Loy Krathong festival will not only preserve a treasured Thai tradition but also unite visitors and residents in heartfelt remembrance of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, whose acts of compassion and service continue to inspire generations.
