NONTHABURI, THAILAND – A 37-year-old Nigerian man was arrested in a condominium in Nonthaburi after residents reported his behaviour as threatening, leading police to discover that his residence permit had expired.
Arrest in Manor Condominium
Investigators from the Rattanathibet Police Station said the man was detained on 19 February 2026 at around 7 p.m. in a room on the sixth floor of the Manor Condominium on Sanambinnam Road in Bang Kraso subdistrict. The Nigerian national, identified as Emmanuel Chukwuebuka, was found in room 557/965 in building section C and was taken into police custody at the scene.
Residents’ Complaints Trigger Police Response
According to the report, the operation was launched after residents informed police that the man was acting conspicuously, making significant noise and appearing intimidating. Neighbours expressed concern that his behaviour could pose a risk to other occupants of the residential complex, prompting officers to carry out a check at the condominium.
Immigration Status Check and Detention
During the inspection, officers determined that Emmanuel Chukwuebuka’s residence permit had already expired and that he was therefore staying in the country without valid authorisation. Police then arrested him and handed him over to the responsible investigators to initiate further criminal proceedings under the Immigration Act.
Charge Under Thai Immigration Law
According to police, Chukwuebuka was accused of violating Section 81 of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979) on the grounds that he had entered and remained in the kingdom after his permitted stay had lapsed. The authorities stated that all further steps would follow the applicable immigration regulations and that the case would proceed through the usual legal process.

Officials said the case illustrated how information from the public could initiate police investigations and support the enforcement of residency rules. A report by Thaitabloid noted that the competent agencies had not yet released details on the length of the overstay or on any possible additional accusations, meaning the suspect was currently being pursued solely under the immigration law.
