PATTAYA, THAILAND – Police detained a naked foreign man in South Pattaya and linked him to an earlier alleged attempt to steal a speedboat while unclothed at Pattaya Beach.
Police operation at southern intersection
According to the report, the Pattaya City Police received a call from concerned residents at around 5:20 p.m. on 4 March. Callers warned that a foreign man was walking naked near the traffic lights at the Communications Intersection in South Pattaya.
Patrol officers were dispatched, along with Pol Lt Phupha Hongyagul, Deputy Inspector of Investigation, who took charge of the situation at the scene. The officers searched the area around the intersection based on the information from the public.
Man located on Pattaya Third Road
Police found the man on Pattaya Third Road near a clinic where witnesses had previously noticed him. According to eyewitnesses, he had initially been bare-chested and wore only trousers while moving through the area.
When officers arrived, the man did not resist. He put his clothes back on when instructed by police and was then taken to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital for a medical examination.
Disturbance among passers-by and staff
Shortly before police reached him, the man had taken off his trousers as well and continued walking completely naked. This caused unease among passers-by and employees of nearby shops.
Staff at a nearby clinic, which the man had visited earlier, finally called the police after he undressed in front of the building. The situation alarmed people working and moving in the immediate vicinity.
Earlier incident at Pattaya Beach
Police checks showed that the same man had already drawn attention on 2 March at about 10 p.m. at Pattaya Beach opposite Soi 13/4. There, he allegedly tried to steal a speedboat with the registration number 60-67 0349-0, again without wearing any clothes.
Boat owner Piya Boonrio stated that the vessel had been properly moored before the man approached it. Bystanders restrained the suspect and handed him over to the police.
Witness describes roadside encounter
A 45-year-old street vendor named Mai said she had first assumed the man was a jogger.
“At first I thought he was just jogging, but after he went into a tour office and then into the nearby clinic, only asked for water and then undressed outside, I realised something was wrong.”
said Mai, a street vendor.
Her account matched statements from other local residents, who also reported unusual behaviour by the man before police arrived. Witnesses described a pattern of actions that made them uneasy and prompted calls to authorities.
Police suspect psychological crisis
Officers said the man showed signs of psychological instability and carried no identification documents. His name and nationality were not disclosed by the authorities.
The investigations into both incidents continued and were to be handled under Thai law. Police did not provide further details on possible charges or the man’s medical condition.
